Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein which comprises about one-half of the blood serum protein. Albumin functions primarily as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones and plays a role in stabilizing extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular unglycosylated serum protein of molecular weight 65,000. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin which has an N-terminal peptide that is removed before the nascent protein is released from the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The product, proalbumin, is in turn cleaved in the Golgi vesicles to produce the secreted albumin.

Competition Assay with anti-Human Serum Albumin Monoclonal Antibody [12D12] (MIH3005)
Surface Plasmon Resonance was performed to study the interaction between a Human Serum Albumin (HSA) monoclonal antibody (Product # MIH3005) and HSA. MIH3005 was covalently coupled to the surface of a planar mixed Self-Assembled Monolayer (SAM) slide via amine coupling using EDC-NHS chemistry (primary amines on the antibody were covalently attached to carboxyl groups on the surface of a gold slide containing a SAM (PEG spacer, 90% alcohol, and 10% carboxyl terminating groups). Different concentrations of HSA (80, 40, 20, 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25, 0.625, and 0.3125nM) were injected over the surface of the slide and micro Refractive Index Units (uRIU) were measured over time.
