Product Specific Information
Purity: The precipitin lines against goat anti-human whole serum are the same as those against goat anti-human IgM, Fc5-mu fragment specific, when assayed by immunoelectrophoresis at an antigen concentration equivalent to 20 mg/ml. No reaction was observed against goat anti-human IgG, Fc fragment specific, goat anti-human IgA, alpha chain specific, or goat anti-human alpha-2-macroglobulin.

This antibody is recommended for use in blocking assays, immunohistochemical, immunocytochemical and immunofluorescent applications.

Storage: After opening, dilute only enough antibody for a single day’s use.
General Information
Serum IgM exists as a pentamer in mammals, predominates in primary immune responses to most antigens, is the most efficient complement fixing immunoglobulin and comprises approximately 10% of normal human serum Ig content. IgM is also expressed on the plasma mem- brane of the B lymphocytes as a monomer. It is the B cell antigen receptor and the H chains each contain an additional hydrophobic domain for anchoring in the membrane. Monomers of serum IgM are bound together by disulfide bonds and a joining (J) chain. Immunoglobulins are useful as qualitative or quantitative protein standards and as blocking agents in certain immunodetection methods. 31146 is a highly-purified IgM immunoglobulin from the serum of a non-immunized animal, primarily used as an experimental control.
